While we are on the subject of German owned luxury brand auto - TopicsExpress

While we are on the subject of German owned luxury brand auto makers coming up with terrible ideas, this certainly is one of them. This short video shows a new technology that will beam information about traffic light sequencing to your car, so you can adjust your speed and never have to actually come to a compete stop. Presumably this would allow you to save fuel as you would never have to pull away from a stop. But is this really a safe thing to do in traffic? I could envision a scenario where the driver with one of these systems on their car, would inevitably and inexplicably start slowing down, because HE knows when the light is going to change. Unfortunately the rest of the traffic around his does not. Now, instead of safely going along WITH the flow of traffic, he has made himself a mobile chicane that other drivers (and especially the impatient ones) will likely want to get past as soon as possible. Other drivers are not likely to be very happy when the guy ahead of him deliberately slows down. After a few successive intersections where the Audi driver does this, the drivers following them will likely try to pass them and may not do it in a safe fashion. This puts the driver of the Audi, and even moreso, every other driver around him, in more danger. As many of us have seen, the cause of the accident, isnt always involved in the accident. This system seems like a shortsighted and selfish feature to save the driver with this system a few pennies on his travels, while at the same time saying to heck with everyone else. Please Audi. Keep this one on the drawing board, and never sell it to anyone. Better yet, take it off the drawing board, crumple it up, and forget you ever thought of it. It system will make YOUR Audi drivers needlessly more unsafe, and the cost of the fuel they may actually same will likely be minuscule compared to the accident damage they may cause. Until all cars on the road are fully autonomous, where the driver doesnt have any input at all, this is a bad idea. youtube/watch?v=a6zrRukr6W0&feature=youtu.be
