While we have not been blamed for the attempted burglaries and vandalism at C.C.F. as is the case in this article; we do feel that there has been ZERO follow for all of the criminal reports which have been filed. For us, the most blatant failure was, we had an act of vandalism at a cost of over $45,000 to repair and half of our facilities not useable for several weeks causing ministries which share our facilities, (i.e. N.As and A.As) to find alternate locations. To date: we have heard NOTHING from LCSO concerning this event and after this much time we assume that is ALL we are going to hear. Even though, they broke our cross and turned it upside down against the door, and by all of my understanding that is a Hate Crime, a felony. But again, we have heard NOTHING from LCSO. But while taking the initial report, it was suggested by representatives of LCSO, that if we had a video system they might have been able to do more for us, and it would help them greatly. So we spent the money from our very limited funds, which could have been better used elsewhere helping out community to have a video surveillance system installed. Then, with the video system up and running, three young men came in the middle of the afternoon, on a bright sunny day, in front of the cameras and carved up the top of a $200.00 picnic table destroying it. We filed still another report, COMPLETE with the video record of the event. While the faces were not completely clear they were visible. To date we have NOTHING from LCSO concerning this event. To date I believe we have filed five criminal reports due to vandalism and burglaries and we have yet to have ONE follow up call. Not one, not even a, I have looked at the report and ... Nothing... Now we realize that we are responsible to all that we can to protect ourselves. So, after many years of allowing people to transit our property to get from one side of Fernley to another we are compelled to spend several thousand dollars, (Again that would be better spent in service.) to install fencing along our property line to protect ourselves. I understand there is no way our limited law enforcement can protect every business and home in Fernley, but maybe one follow up would have been encouraging; even if it was, We have examined all the evidence and we dont have enough to continue. We are sorry. I just surmise that the silence just tells us how important we here in Fernley are to them in Yerington. Honestly, all we can surmise is the many reports we submitted were just tossed into a file in some office in Yerington and the sole purpose of calling LCSO was to have the paperwork to have the Insurance Company repair the damage. After every event we follow the suggestions of LCSOs representatives, only to have no greater response when the next event occurs. I think we need to shake the apple tree a little, for no other reason then to change the thinking top down, and maybe have an administration in the Sheriffs Department that has a greater consideration for ALL of Lyon County and distributes resources logically and balanced according to population, on going crime statistics, instead of a status quo which was established 25 or 30 years ago. ... Undersheriff Torres (I am certain you will see this.) and Sargent McNeil, what are your plans to deal with total lack of follow-up to the communities when you elected Sheriff? ...
