While we were watching Cosmos tonight, I thought that if I was a religious person, I would MUCH prefer the scientific explanation of how the world was created, how life evolved, how everything works together in this amazing complexity that is our planet. Why? Because it would say to me that we are all the product of a vast and magnificent intelligence which creates things to become whatever they need to be, a mind that is so powerful and loving that it can give us all the building blocks and leave us to make of them what we will, from the smallest particle to the vastness of the universe. Isnt that all much more satisfying than an old man on a throne waving his arms and saying Light, earth, animals, people. Good, now worship me.? How is it more satisfying to embrace a simplistic explanation which flies in the face of hard evidence, and then having to twist yourself into a pretzel to explain away that evidence? Why do we have to complicate things so just to make them simple enough to understand?
