While working at home earlier tonight I heard a noise in the background that sounded like a bunch of kids being noisy and playing around. Then I realized it was a woman in trouble screaming for help because she was being beaten up. I ran outside my front door and saw a vehicle and an altercation going on across the street and nobody else was checking this out or doing anything that I could see. I shouted Call 911 and started running towards the commotion. Apparently, a man who was beating up his friend/date/girlfriend saw me running towards him and decided that would be a good time to get into his vehicle, a blue or black Tahoe and speed off tearing around the corner. The woman seemed to be not hurt to the point of needing an ambulance from what I could tell, although she said he had been beating her n the face. She kept saying she didnt want the police involved because she was afraid what he would do to her or her family. A few minutes later a policeman showed up and I left. In pondering all of this afterwards, I found it surprising that I could hear her screams upstairs on the back side of my house which is very isolated from the street with all the windows closed. She was making a huge amount of noise. Nobody was willing to venture out and come to her aid. As I was waiting for the police, I saw others looking from behind their windows, walking or riding by, etc and nobody - not a single soul was there to be of assistance.
