While working to gain access to the Geneva II peace talks, Syrian women activists attended a series of meetings where they shared their own experiences and listened to those of other women who also struggled to be included in peace processes and post-conflict planning in their countries. Cynthia Enloe blogged from Geneva about her experiences at these meetings. She observed how the stories of women from Northern Ireland, Guatemala, the Western Sahara, and Syria show that peacebuilding begins before any formal peace talks or ceasefires occur, and that the “on the ground work” is often done by women.
