Whilst I eagerly await for any word of setting or rules, oranything at all from the creators (HINT HINT GUYS AND GALS) I do see alot of Ideas from folk, regarding what type of character they wish to make. Now, we have almost nil idea other than the words Sci-fi Colony LARP to go from, But I have to ask Why so many marines/soliders/Space Muderhobos? For me, I reach into Sci-fi movies and books for inspiration and Im hardpressed to find a newly established colony with an attachment of Armed Forces. Internal police force perhaps, But then again all sci-fi Frontier colony style style takes points from the american colonistation of the Wild West, where folks had to rely upon each other in the township to survive and govern themselves, with the military being....well away fighting wars. So there in begs the question, Can you have a scenerio were the Military and Civilians are working together completely, within a Colony type setting? Personally I see Military Colonys to be along the lines of An off-world SGC, Or a Staging area for military issues. IE: Largely miltary run, minor scientific civilian input and near to no Adaptable living in the form of farmers/families/etc. In the other direction though, Isee something like Earth 2s landing crew, Or other sci fi colony stories, were you have a number of humanitiesgiftedand hardworking, amongst them families (In order to increase the geneticpopulation), herd animals or fertilised animal ova (Depends on Starship type and speed) and in terms of Firepower a handgun/Riflecombo per farmstead/house/habitat. Now,dont get me wrong I know ALOT of these can be mixed and matched depending on the THOUSANDS of things the ST team can and will come up with. But I think it something to keep in mind, especially for those looking at the extremes of both sterotypes. IE: Mecha-robo Super solider will have little to do on a Planet that needs to be farmed,settled and lived on, especially with repairs needed, as will any true blue dyed in the wool family of Settlers having a strange and useless time upon a military base.
