Whiplash (2014) Rating - 9/10 What does it take to be someone great? To become someone who people will never forget, you always have to be willing to go for that extra mile beyond the normality of being just adequately good at something. And thats exactly what this absolutely powerful movie vociferates in a taut 100 minutes with the tale of an aspiring drummer who dreams to be remembered forever under the mentoring of a ruthlessly brutal, foul-mouthed teacher who is willing to push the confines in order to see his students full potential, at the risk of his basic humanness. Miles Teller was convincing as the student who dreams big, while J.K. Simmons comes up with a performance of a lifetime as the remorseless instructor. The whole making, cinematography, music and editing were pitch-perfect in keeping us hooked right from the initial frames till the credits roll in, with its surmounting tension and psychological mind games. Highly recommended!
