Whitakers Report Monday morning started out chilly but wih sunny skies the temperature reached into the mid 50s in the afternoon. As of early this morning rain showers were moving through our area but is expected to clear by mid day. A one day warm up is expected for today with the temperature reaching near 70 degrees. Yesterday was another day of mixed reports from anglers, some groups did well, while others had a slow day, but it seemed the best action came from the lower end of the river. The anglers we have staying in the motel who fished the DSR reported having a good day of steelhead action on a mix of egg patterns, woolly buggers and beads. If your looking for salmon the mid to upper end of the river is still holding a few fish in and around the gravel areas. The upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville continues to produce a mixed bag of kings, cohos and steelhead. Anglers who fished the Upper & Lower Fly Zones reported doing well with a mix of kings, cohos and steelhead. Single egg patterns, stoneflies and woolly buggers have produced steady results in the fly zones.
