White Rose update from Cllr Helen Grant and Cllr Paul Cullen. What a difference a few weeks makes! We have finally got the opportunity to pull off Operation White Rose Rescue! Nearly 2 years of talking, emailing everyone from William Hague MP and Phillip Hammond MP, to Defence Infrastructure Organisation – being hopeful one minute and disappointed the next. Setting up an open day for tradesmen, getting the support of the British Gurkha and Nepalese Community and other small charitable businesses who would work out of the building, the football teams – identifying people who would be able to reopen the bowling alley – you name them we have contacted them or they have contacted us. If you have a group which needs a home it may be that the White Rose will be the place for you too – please do get in touch. There will be a lot of physical work to be done initially, cleaning, painting and getting ready to open which is where we will be seeking community support. Alongside this we will be doing the substantial invisible work - agreeing a lease, applying for funding, writing a constitution, considering staffing needs, forming a Steering Group, etc. Please keep an eye on this site and in the local papers to read of any updates and the next steps.
