White-Tailed buck Abel being generally cantankerous on the Northwest Ridge, western sector of La Bota Ranch near Laredo, Texas - - December 3, 2014 @ 4:23 p.m. Abel appeared on the ridge late in the afternoon. The first sign of him was when I saw a small tree shaking about 150 yards away - it was Abel thrashing his antlers against it. He made his way over to a Mesquite tree and used the licking branch, then ambled directly toward me with an Ear Drop, hackled fur, and an Antler Drop. He stopped to check some corn I had poured earlier for another WTD. Abel scented the corn, showed no interest in eating any, and scraped the ground where the corn kernels were. He then continued walking toward me with hackled fur and Ear Drop and began to flank and Sidle me at close range. I abandoned the camera on a tripod and climbed a dirt mound to try to intimidate him. Abel scraped the ground in the high grass just yards away. Activate the HD control at lower right for high definition.
