White-Tailed buck Orion eating tunas from a large Prickly Pear - TopicsExpress

White-Tailed buck Orion eating tunas from a large Prickly Pear (Opuntia) on the Northwest Ridge, western sector of La Bota Ranch near Laredo, Texas a few minutes before sunset - August 4, 2014 @ 8:12 p.m. This is the first time I have see a WTD eat the fruit of the Prickly Pear and the first opportunity I have ever had to get a video of the activity. I have previously observed WTD eat the nopalitos or leaves of the cactus. If a human were to do this without shaving the skin and glochids off the tuna(s), their throat would likely swell and possibly cause suffocation. Obviously WTD are immune to the effects of the glochids.
