Whitworth is working to ensure that by the year 2021, 100 percent of traditional undergraduates complete a service-learning course before graduating. In 2011, the percentage of students who participated in service-learning was 62 percent; in 2014, that number surged to 98.2 percent! By volunteering with partners in the community, students integrate classroom learning with “real-world” experience. They also develop professional skills and discern vocational interests; gain a broader perspective and increased understanding of diverse communities; and become the next generation of leaders and social innovators who create positive change.
