Who Will Help Them? Read Job 25:1 through 30:31 Peggy, a poor widow, lived on Okie Hill just outside Westport, Oregon. Her rat-infested house stood in shambles. Mold covered the interior walls. The roof leaked during every rainstorm. Her bathroom facility was a hole in the backyard. The county had condemned Peggy’s property and planned to evict her after Christmas. When the local Assembly of God congregation realized her plight, they reached out to Peggy, repaired her home, and upgraded the property. The townspeople watched real Christianity in action—and nodded their approval. “Whoever heard me spoke well of me, and those who saw me commended me, because I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist them” (Job 29:11–12). The poor often fall between the cracks. Government agencies are overwhelmed, and society often looks the other way. Christians cannot turn a blind eye. Like Job, we must help the poor, the orphans, and those who have no one to assist them. People pay attention when they see the true gospel demonstrated. Challenge for Today: Most churches have a benevolence outreach. Ask your pastor how you can help. Quicklook: Job 29:11–16
