Who are Shadow People? This is how it often happens: youre sitting home one night watching television or knitting. Youre focused on what youre doing, thinking about what to make for dinner or tomorrows work day, when out of the corner of your eye you see a dark figure. It darts across the room so quickly, you figure you imagined it, or that your eyes are tired. Maybe a car passed outside and a headlight cast a shadow across the wall. Whatever; that was strange but it was nothing. Probably… right? It starts to happen more and more. Youre beginning to think you need to have your eyes checked. But somethings changing-- youre starting to feel something in your stomach when you see them. Something that is unsettling; you sense something malevolent-- bad energy. Now that youre noticing them, theyre starting to take on more of a recognizable shape-- almost human sometimes. One day you might walk into a room and find yourself face-to-face with a dark, humanoid figure, or you may wake up to find one staring down at you from the foot of your bed. The fear runs through your veins like ice water. This is fairly typical stories that involve shadow people sightings. People who tend to see shadow people very briefly report unease and discomfort. Shadow People Encounters Shadow people look like shadowy silhouettes of human beings, except theyre made of just translucent darkness. Usually, they tend to just dart in and out of the field of vision briefly. Occasionally, they take on full form and materialize in front of you-- facing you. Some people have reported seeing glowing red eyes in the darkness. Even more rarely, people have reported shadow people jumping on them, trying to smother or strangle them. People who tend to see shadow people very briefly report unease and discomfort. Full-on encounters are usually met with an overwhelming sense of foreboding and fear. They are definitely perceived as a threat by those who encounter them. They seem to lurk in certain places, though sometimes they appear to be following a specific person around. It could be the person passed through a place and caught the attention of a shadow person, who then followed them home. But What Are They? The jury is still out on the true nature of shadow people, though there are several theories. Some people believe them to be ghosts-- dark spirits with malevolent intentions. Other theories involve shadow people being humans who are either astral traveling or time traveling. Some people do this without having any particularly harmful intentions (such as the shadows that dart around without disturbing us) while others do so of mal intent. Still others see them as aliens or beings from another dimension. The most common belief, however, is that they are some form of demon. Demons are spiritual creatures (the polar opposite of angels) that have never been human and are made of pure negative energy. Still, a final suggestion by skeptics is that these beings are nothing more than a figment of people’s imagination run amok. It would actually be a relief to think this is true; however someone who has an encounter that feels real will probably have a hard time accepting this theory. What’s interesting is that so many different encounters from all over the world—back from even before the internet helped such stories travel—seem so similar. What’s even more disturbing is that encounters seem to be on the rise.
