Who caught our gorgeous Summerblossom models in the paper on - TopicsExpress

Who caught our gorgeous Summerblossom models in the paper on Saturday? Unfortunately the reality of this article being published was really disappointing... The Daily Telegraph loved our recent formal shoot with Minx Makeup & Spray Tanning, Shire Mobile Hair Styling, Philippa Enid Photography, Little Party Dress and Cupcakes by Lolli so much, that they asked me if they could re shoot it with their own photographer (for reasons unknown, they didnt want to use the beautiful original photos). Within hours (and between madly posting orders and a doctors appointment) I organised the beautiful models, venue, styled the backdrop, props, clothing etc again, but this time for their photographer. The models were total pros and Im so grateful for the way they represented the Summerblossom brand and the way they conducted themselves. Absolute stars. Although I was interviewed, the papers editors ran the article without a single mention of Summerblossom in the article or caption. Zip, nada, nothing. (I have spoken to the journalist and in absolutely no way blame them. I know they did everything in their power to credit the shoot correctly and that their work was edited). For a small business like mine, a small mention in a national paper would have been exciting and great for business. Plus, obviously, it would have gone straight to the Pool Room ;) That said, even though I treasure Summerblossom with all of my heart I can certainly handle the disappointment of not being credited for my work and my designs. Ill admit I was frustrated when I found out on Saturday morning but I consciously decided to build a bridge and went off and had a fab weekend with my family and friends. The thing about the article that completely and utterly baffles and maddens me is that in the print version they went to the effort of photoshopping Madi (seen here on the left) out of the photo completely. Surely they have a responsibility to ensure that a beautiful 13 year old girl doesnt ever have any reason to doubt how beautiful they are? Why exclude her? What message could that send to a young girl if she were struggling with self-esteem issues? Was it really worth photoshopping her out? I dont have any experience specifically in designing a newspaper, but I guess it was a layout issue. Yet as a graphic designer prior to starting my own label, there’s a little voice in my head saying “surely the layout could have been worked around the original image”… I know Madi well and I thank my lucky stars that she is an incredibly bright, delightful, well-adjusted and downright gorgeous 13 year old girl whom, I am assured by her wonderful parents, didnt take the exclusion to heart. Thank goodness. I just cant weigh up the potential benefit the paper would have gained from photoshopping Madi out against the potential damage doing so could have caused a 13 year old girls self confidence. Madi, you are beautiful. I want you to always remember that this had nothing at all to do with you. I would be so grateful to everyone if you would be so kind as to share this post for two reasons; 1. For a small business with heart whom I believe should be credited for their work. 2. But above all to make sure Madi knows shes amazing and should have been in there alongside these 4 other beautiful girls. Love, Rochelle x
