Who gets Rotator Cuff injuries? Rotator cuff tendonitis and rotator cuff tears are generally caused by either injury or degeneration. Injuries generally occur as a result of a fall, repetitive trauma or a sudden forced movement of the arm. Overhead activities such as painting and decorating, sports (tennis serve), round shouldered posture and occupations such as carpentry are known to be contributing factors. Degeneration of the tendons occurs due to natural wear and tear of the muscles and tendons as we age. Degenerative tears are seen in people over the age of 40 but traumatic tears may occur at any age. If you have shoulder pain, click on the link below to take our free symptom test.
