Who has used the word compleat in a sentence in the last year or so ? Some categorize it simply as the archaic pre-1800s spelling of complete. People such as myself who look at words as a hobby or passion still use it to mean the total package . Context; Hes the compleat racer. Hes won in stock cars and Indy cars , vintage-car-racing; he coaches, he helps carmakers develop parts and set-up vehicles , hes worked as a race-promoter and Safety-Marshall. (or any similar context where someone is the quintessential-whatever ; sportsmen , educator, artist , culinary guru , lifestyle and nutrition and fitness person. Any of those masters of their whole domain could be deemed compleat given the breadth of their knowledge and or skills in a given area , often medicine , science sometimes, arts or sports ( not so much team sports; but its certainly feasible). Also for those of you who dont know : THIS WEEK : Read a banned book !! Remember the Nazis were most famous for banning books and burning books. Every banned-book read is a victory for the 1st Amendment and a smack in the face of every tyrant who tried to curtail freedom of knowledge and the sharing of ideas & ideals. ( and Racing in the Rain ; a terrific classic book as much about dogs and life, as anything having to do with the literality suggested by the title ; just made the list. In Texas of course, where all guns are acceptable, but only some books apparently ;)
