Who is a Philosopher? I was born in 1983. This year my country - TopicsExpress

Who is a Philosopher? I was born in 1983. This year my country India won its first Cricket World Cup. When I was 22, the priest in my diocese announced publicly “I found a junior Socrates here.” And that was me. It was such a proud moment in my life. The amusing thing was that I was fully aware of neither the philosophy nor the supremacy of Socrates, the great thinker world has ever produced. The tragic thing was that I lost the attention of girls. I don’t know why women don’t like philosophers. One day one of my colleague came from home. The scene is happening in 2014. He hails from a high-range village in Kerala. He brought some delicious coffee powder. The next morning I made three cups of tea. I gave one cup to Ajeesh and the other to Sujath. They are my friends. When I left the kitchen, they poured their tea in the wash basin. I saw this and I felt sad. To my surprise they started boiling the water and searched for something in the kitchen. I entered the scene and asked “What the hell you are searching?” I was little bit angry. “That coffee powder” they replied. “It’s finished, man.” I told. “Oh! Shit.” they expressed it unanimously. Then Ajeesh told me “Bro, I learned one lesson. This is a simple eye opener.” I looked at his eyes. “Yes its wide open” I told. “Bro, We never throw anything until we have another thing to replace it. May be it’s a job or anything else.” He told. “Wow! Nice.” I replied. Ajeesh always finds some lessons from his day to day activities. Will it make him a philosopher? I dont know. He was surrounded by no girls. He waited eagerly for each girl he felt infatuation. But nothing came in his way. He was reluctant to move in their way. But one day he forgot the lessons he learned, when a beautiful girl showed some level of willingness. He tried his way best to get her consideration. During that time, he was in a magical world. But one day everything stopped. As usual he felt “Good things never last long with me. My life is suffering from this curse.” But he was not ready to go back. He started to find lessons from his life’s each and every incidents happening. He told me “Jophi, Assume we are in the middle of an ocean. We are not seeing any sign of land. If we swim, there is a distant chance to reach any shore. Otherwise we are lost.” He help us to smile though he has nothing to smile. He tries to illuminate the circumstances. By this way, he finds a peace of mind and mental strength. On one weekend we were out in search of a flat as we were forced to vacate our existing room. We didn’t make any problem. We can’t make it even if we wish because we are such good boys. The problem was we were bachelors. The worst scenario made us ask ourselves “Being a bachelor a punishable offense?” We didn’t get the answer. But each moment when we get rejected, we felt punished and exhausted. The witty one among us found a solution. He is Vishal. He told us “We will hire a woman. And I being the most romantic among us will act as her hubby. And you Ajeesh and Joph will be her brothers. After one month we will send her and tell that she is pregnant. So we are safe for at least some couple of months.” I just smiled. But Ajeesh being very precise and logical rejected it without a second thought. “Shall we go for a movie?” I asked as I being a movie maniac. “Yep” they agreed. We searched in the net and found one fish. We dialed her number. I was the one who spoke with them. I told my friends “The show is about to begin. So will we drop the plan” “No.” the answer came from Ajeesh. “If we decided, then there is no point of looking back.” He continued. We couldn’t say ‘No’ before his confidence. We reached there after half an hour. We got ticket. We rushed inside. And we felt astonished by the empty screen. The show was delayed due to some technical reasons. And it was such a rare case in the history of that movie hall. We sat inside. Soon the lights turned off. The movie we saw there had the title “1983”. It is an Indian feature film in Malayalam language. The movie unveils the story of passion, charm, unity that a lively game could offer. Here they preferred cricket. There is friendship, love, hope and everything is mixed in its right proportion. At the end of the movie, a father along his child were walking through a village road. At the horizon we could see a mountain. The father told “The mountain is far away. The path towards it is too long. We only started our journey.” Then we are able to see the words of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar “Chase your dreams, the path might be difficult, but never give up.” We came outside the theatre. I saw a man there who seemed very familiar. Soon I realized. He was from my village. We were like brothers. But I was unaware of him for the past 15 years. It was such a joyful moment for me. We had the dinner together. When we shared our grievances about a flat, he dialed somebody and settled a suitable flat for us. On our way back room, Ajeesh reminded us “Did you heard a famous saying, If we are intensely passionate in what we are doing, the world around us will come to help us in reaching our goal.” I don’t know who is a philosopher. I don’t know who is a thinker. I know that I am nothing. There are enough to learn from our day to day life. There are enough lessons in this here now moments. This moment I remember the priest who ignited the fire in me, the light in me. I am not bothering about who is going to get impressed in me, I am not bothering about who is going to criticize my words and deeds. My life is blessed with the real characters around me. There is Vishal, there is Ajeesh, there is Sujath and many more. I am learning from them. I am finding that this life is amazingly incredible.
