Who is this Chev Taniwha who is hopping behind the wheel of the 62P machine for this weekends Global Challenge at our home track, Palmerston North. **** He is, Chevron Jay Taniwha a 24 year old Palmerston North electrician. If not racing Mr Taniwha likes to be fishing. He answered that his hero is Sonny Bill Williams. He raced a ministock for 6 years, the last 4 years have seen him in a Stockcar. When he doesnt have a NZ in his number he is 74P. I asked him who contacted him to race Superstock 62P. He stated that Peter Sloman (Super Saloon legend & close Joblin family friend) had mentioned it to him. Then while on holiday prior to NZ stockcars he got a text from Adam. When asked what his immediate reaction was & whom he told he replied that he had been in shock & couldnt believe that out of everyone Adam had chosen him. He then proceeded to tell his dad. He states that he is still over the moon & super excited. Chev doesnt have any pre-race rituals but does race with a lucky pair of odd gloves!!! Ambitions & goals for speedway future? To be 1NZ Stockcar [given that youve had 2&3NZ this is likely very attainable Chev so go higher - 1NZ superstock]. And also to race for the Panthers!!! Just a small insight into this Champion. I read today that someone called you Chev Taniflyer!!! This made me chuckle. The family & team will see you Friday.
