Who remembers Astro?! We took in Astro several months ago from a rescue in NY. He is 5 years old and had lived 4 of those years in a high kill shelter. He was on Prozac because he started getting cage crazy, eating walls, and spinning in his cage. He was placed in several different homes throughout the country..yet he was returned every time. Various families said that he was dog aggressive, destructive, not house broken, mouthy, and just a bad dog. We agreed to take him in and find a home for him, but he ended up bonding with Ember..one of the resident dogs here and has helped her come out of her shell and work through some of her issues. When we got him, he didnt have any of the issues that we were told he did. He has several behaviors that we arent big on, but nothing major. He is now off of his Prozac completely and living comfortably at Camp PPR with his girlfriend Ember. Unfortunately, due to a freak accident Astro got ahold of a tennis ball (hes very very ball obsessed and isnt allowed to have anything smaller than a basketball) and he swallowed the ball whole. I kid you not, he swallowed it with no problems at all. I (of course) tried to get the ball from him...however I could not pry his big mouth open and then he looked up at me and smiled and gulped down the ball. So, today he had surgery to remove the ball from his stomach. He is doing great, and he is in good spirits (he was SOOOO proud of himself for eating that ball). Surgery went very well and it is expected to be a quick recovery for our big meat head.
