Who remembers having JACK FROST on the inside of their bed room window when they got up in the morning. We had coal fires that had to be laid and lit every morning and the cinders cleaned out up to about 55 then a coke burner with a built in gas poker to light the coke these were installed by North Thames gas as coke was a by product of gas making. Then in 60 my father had two gas fires fitted. When I was under five I can remember coming home from shopping in the snow and sitting in the kitchen warming our feet in the gas oven. When we first got married we had a open coal fire for two years till the first baby came along.
