Who remembers the old Peters ice cream sign that used to adorn our favourite haunts as kids. The milk bar closest to my house in Barry st was the one in High street, and used to go there often and buy a bag of lollies and you selected them from their boxes under the glass countertop. I remember going to the shop one time and buying some sugar, which was not supposed to be sold after a certain time on the weekend. I think some grocery items were not allowed to be sold. I remember taking a closed in bag and the proprietor wrapping the sugar packet in newspaper so it could not be seen. Now, that is going back a long way. It would have been in the 1950s.
