Who rode this elevator? When I was little, this seemed like the most special thing in the world to do, to ride a glass elevator. I remember how elegant and plush it seemed inside the hotel. And once, just once, our mother--a widow on a very limited budget--took us to the restaurant at the top of the hotel. We felt like the most important people in the world. Amazing how powerful and vivid memories can be--I can almost feel myself stepping into that elevator even as I type. Seems like yesterday. I wish it was.
