Who was John the Baptist and What did you go out into the wilderness to see? John was a prophet and a man on Fire with a message from God to Repent. People came to see him not because of how he dressed and lived or because he followed the culture or was politically correct...but because he came with a WORD to prepare the way for the one with the double portion of the spirit the annointed one...Jesus Christ! That message was to repent of sin, Idolotry and living life without the Messiah. Regarless of how we complicate Johns message today it is still the same 2000 plus years later...Repent! John understood his ONLY assignment by god which was to let the world know that the kingdom of god was at hand through his son Jesus. Today the world wants to take your head off (not literally of course) everytime you exalt in the name of Christ and his word just like they did John. He did not have a popular message but he had a message from God. People today as they did then want to rebel against gods prophets, principals and Power. John 1: 29 - 34 29 The next day he (John) saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, `After me comes a man who ranks before me, for he (The creator) was before me. 31 I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel. 32 And John bore witness, I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him (Jesus Identified). 33 I myself did not know him; but he who sent me (God) to baptize with water said to me, `He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God. Note of interest: This is a rare time when the Trinity is witnessed...God speaking, the Holy Spirit in the form of the Dove and Jesus the Christ. Isaiah 40:3 A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Proverbs 29:18 18 Where there is no vision (word), the people perish : but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. The word is what you came to the wilderness to see!
