Who we are, Where we are and Where we want to go The Filipinos • Filipinos are known for always seeing the brighter side of the picture. We are happy people, with a ready smile and friendly nod for everyone we meet. We are optimistic by nature. • When we see that majority of our fellow Filipinos live in poverty, we take time to help. This is evident in our enduring Filipino value, bayanihan. • When we see the government failing our expectations with every reported case of graft and corruption, we do not sit idly by and let it pass. We express our outrage and denounce such acts because we are a freedom-loving nation. The Philippines • Despite our optimism, the truth remains: - Our democratic system is not functioning as it should. - Substantial parts of our population do not understand the rule of law and participative democratic procedures due to an environment of patronage, corruption, social injustice and at some instances, even violence. - Our economy is controlled largely by monopolies and the ruling class. - Our government is too preoccupied with personality politics that is fallen short in providing services to its citizens. From a Centrist Democratic Perspective: • We envision a country where every Filipino lives in a decent home, where every child goes to school, where every family has food to eat and where every one has the opportunity to provide for himself/herself and is ultimately able to achieve his/her full potential. • We envision a country with responsible political leaders, active citizens and strong government institutions that are responsive to the needs of the people and the interest of the Filipino nation. • We envision a country in which national wealth is equitably distributed- a country, flourishing with businesses and economic prosperity shared by all its citizens. • We envision a country that plays a role in the global economy and has the respect of other nations. • We envision a country that upholds and nurture the dignity of the Filipino people.
