Who were my heroes this year? First, April Dominy, who battled health issues all year, including an emergency gallbladder surgery that was pretty scary, and countless other surgeries and setbacks. Her joy and love in the midst of these things, her kidney disease (Renal Tubular Acidosis), and her autoimmune disease (Sjogrens, similar to Lupus), was tremendous and humbling. Shes incredible in every way, and Im glad shes my wife. Second, Rachael Anne Steegar Rensink, who not only fought Breast Cancer all year, but did it with style and grace, blogging about it in the most open and honest way, bringing me to tears on multiple occasions. She has posted pictures of her in her most vulnerable and bruised stages, and still battles. She was recently profiled on ABCs Good Morning America, and her story is an inspiration to all, including April and I. These are the heroes I most celebrated in 2014.
