Who were the KJV translators? It is supposed the translators of the King James Bible were drunks, Catholics, and questionable men chosen by a political king for political reasons. I strong object to this line of reasoning. I have recently made a breakthrough in the history of these men. Remember I am a trained historian with long hours in the classroom. This is primarily a document of history and not a sermon. I would like to share the details of this history with you now. Less than 50 years before the King James Bible was put together there was an event in English history that scarred many families, many churches, and many anti-Catholics. During the reign of Mary Tudor (1516-1558), over 300 Bible Believers were burned at the stake in the English country side. It is very likely the translators of the Bible had family who were killed in the flames. It may have been fathers, uncles, cousins or friends who were burned. The odds that the translators were not in the crowd that witnessed the religious executions is extremely small. I believe it would be fair to say that their lives were greatly affected by those who died in these fiery executions. Would remember your family being killed in the flames of government persecutions? These translators would have been in their teens or early twenties at the most during this time. Have you ever asked how the King James Bible came to exist? What were the events that brought this spiritual book about in its time? Queen Elizabeth had died in 1603 and she asked her cousin who had been raised by Calvinistic tutors and a Catholic mother to take her throne. James came from Scotland the land of Presbyterianism. On his way to London, 1000 Puritans ministers presented him with the Millenary Petition for reforms in the Catholic doctrines in England and the English Anglican Church. There were 39 anti-Catholic articles in their petition. In 1604, many of these Puritans gathered with King James I and many Catholics at Hampton Court for Conference on this petition. Many Puritan demands were granted by King James. Those who have studied the Puritans know they are the most anti-Catholic party in the England at this time. Did you know that the translators were at this conference and many of their names were among the 1000 Puritan Ministers who signed the petition? The translators were Puritans. Plain and simple. Does not sound like drunks and Catholics to me. Did you know the Puritans were the best dressed people in society at the time and up on the latest technology? The Hampton Court Conference also bore fruit for the Puritans, who insisted that man know God’s Word without intermediaries. This led to King James commissioning a translation of the Bible into the English vernacular. It would be known as the Authorized Version because it alone was authorized to be read in Churches in the British Empire. Being the Authorized Version was to protect the people from bad translations, not to push the political agenda of the English King. In the Fall of 1605, the Catholic faction in England prepared a surprise for the King, the parliament and the KJV translators at the opening of Parliament. Under the House of LORD the Jesuits placed 36 barrels of gun powder with the intention of destroying all within. The Jesuits hated this translation of the Bible so much, they intended to blow all connect with it into a thousand pieces. Their plot was discovered and the details of their schemes were made public. Those guilty of the plot were tried and executed. Those claiming the King James Bible is of Catholic origins should be wondering about the true intentions of the translators by now. Did you know that in 1588, there was great event that highly favored the King James Bible? The Pope and the Catholic faction arranged for the great Spanish Armanda to conqueror Protestant England. The tiny English fleet met the Spanish Navy off the shores of the English Coastline and some say by a miracle the English Fleet destroyed the Great Spanish Armanda and reduced Spain to a 3rd rate world power. This would allow the King James Bible to be spread throughout much of the known world. England now controlled the oceans and the seas. This is the reason God put the Bible into English. God has used the King James Bible many times in history to spread his message. Have you studied the work of William Tyndale and his death? Did you know over ninety percent of the King James Bible was from William Tyndale’s work? Did you know William Tyndale used the Greek text of Erasmus for his translation? Did you know that the Catholic Bible was the dominate Bible of the Dark Ages? There was group that notice there were many different changes from the Greek Antioch Text and they sought to put an Antioch Text into the hands of the people. As Tyndale was dying, he prayed so everyone could hear, “LORD, Open the King of England’s eyes.” Some 66 years later the King of England ordered the translation of the King James Version of the Bible. The King James Version is the Bible for me. History supports it. The Spirit of God supports it. God paved the way for it. It has been used for over 400 years to wins people to Jesus Christ. You may not accept that, but the evidence is piling up. I hope this helps you understand where I am coming from. This is not about tearing people’s lives up. It is about helping people.
