Who would disrespect Hands of Stone? The life and boxing career of Roberto Duran is one of the greatest, most compelling stories in the history of professional sports. Currently, a feature film, Roberto Duran Hands of Stone the movie, is in post production. The film, which features and all star cast including Academy Award winner Robert DeNiro, and Amy Madigan, is the product of an authorized script that provides the truth about Panamas greatest sports legend. Unfortunately, not all writers deal well with truth, in fact, one writer decided that his own version of the Duran story might be more interesting. I am speaking of Christian Giudice, who came out with a book on the life of the great Roberto Duran, its titled Hands of Stone. Im familiar with the book because I purchased it a couple of years ago when it came out. Im a major Duran fan, and I am interested in anything related to Roberto, providing it is not the product of some writers imagination. Much of what is found in Giudices version of Hands of Stone is a lie. I have learned from the family of the legendary champion that many parts of the book contain falsehoods, and and blatant misrepresentations. So disgusted with the book is Roberto Duran, the legendary champion refuses to sign it when asked by fans. Guidice not only shared fabricated scenerios about the former champion, he also did so about Robertos family. Upon learning this, I went to my office and removed the book from shelf, and filed it in trash can outside. For those who own a copy of the book, please dont consider it Roberto Durans biography, consider it fiction. -Rick Farris Boxing Historian
