Who would you choose lads&lasses....... After Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul was ruled out with injury - and his deputy Rob Elliot then came off injured against Chelsea - reports in the Shields Gazette suggest Alan Pardews side may seek to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan. The Premier League can allow such a move under exceptional circumstances. From Tottenham to Manchester, here are five potential options... ~ Mark Schwarzer ~ The Chelsea goalkeeper sees little to no first-team action at Stamford Bridge, with Thibaut Courtois the Blues no.1 and Petr Cech a more-than-able deputy. What harm would it do, then, if Schwarzer joined Newcastle for a few weeks. Pardew would benefit, Schwarzer would benefit - and so would Chelsea. ~ Willy Caballero ~ Perhaps a less realistic option, the Manchester City goalkeeper has also seen restricted game time as he was brought in specifically to become Joe Harts no.2. The difference here, though, is that Caballero will be needed if Hart does indeed suffer an injury of his own or becomes unavailable, perhaps even if his form dips. An enquiry could still be worth it, however, and why not aim high? ~ Brad Friedel ~ Like Schwazer, bringing the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper to the Magpies makes perfect sense. Friedel sees virtually no first-team action at White Hart Lane due to the form of no.1 Hugo Lloris. Keeping Friedel on his toes at Newcastle, then, would keep him fresh were he needed at Tottenham later in the campaign and give Pardew a very experienced goalkeeper indeed. ~ Anders Lindegaard ~ Once again, a Manchester man that could prove an unlikely target, the 30-year-old will not be replacing David De Gea anytime soon and could make the move should he fancy some actual game time. But it is unclear whether Manchester United would be willing to let him leave in case of an injury to their main shot stopper. ~ Jak Alnwick ~ However, a fifth option that presents itself is no transfer at all. Jak Alnwick, 21, was superb after coming on for Newcastle against Chelsea - and could now have the chance of proving the display was not a one-hit wonder. As the injured Elliot himself says: “Fingers crossed I won’t be out for too long. But, with Jak’s performance, I might not need to rush back! “That 45 minutes showed everything he’s been doing.
