Who you miss at 2pm, not 2am... I saw an interesting Facebook - TopicsExpress

Who you miss at 2pm, not 2am... I saw an interesting Facebook post this weekend: “Life is about who you miss at 2 in the afternoon when you’re busy, not at 2 in the morning when you’re lonely.” With that in mind, I have to say mine is God; but only as a THANK YOU, not as a need. I think of God more like George Burns, not like a being from whom I get stuff. He is my friend and confidant, not my “giver of stuff”. According to Jesus, our prayers (conversation) should be more like this: Hey, Dad; Youre awesome! Let me be an example of Your love, forgiveness and grace, so that other people can see what Youve done in me. Give me the resources needed to support myself, my family and those I serve. Forgive me just like I show forgiveness to those that have done me wrong, so I keep in perspective the level of forgiveness I require of You. Help me keep my mind focused on You and not what I want. Thanks for letting me hang out with You today. Your turn! Ill try to listen... The Lords Prayer (Dominic Young Version) Not like this: “God, I need this, help them and curse those”. He knows what is going on in your life and the world better than you ever will. Do you trust Him? Then let Him deal with it… ----------------------------------------------------- PLEASE ENJOY: The story is told about three accountants who doubted their three engineer friends. They were traveling by train to a conference. The accountants bought three tickets, but the engineers only bought one. How are three people going to travel on only one ticket? an accountant asked. Watch and youll see, said an engineer. They all boarded the train. The accountants took their seats, but the three engineers crammed into a restroom and closed the door behind them. The train departed the station and soon the conductor came through the car asking for tickets. He knocked on the restroom door and said, Ticket, please. The door opened a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor took it and moved on. The accountants agreed that this is a rather clever idea so after the conference, they decided to duplicate the engineers feat. They bought only one ticket, but were astonished when the engineers bought no ticket at all! How are you going to travel without a ticket? the accountants asked. Watch and youll see, replied the engineers. When they boarded the train, the accountants crammed into a restroom with their ticket while the three engineers did the same in a nearby restroom. After the train departed the station, one of the engineers left the restroom and walked over to the restroom where the accountants were hiding. He knocked on the door and said, Ticket, please. Watch and youll see. I wonder how many times those words have been spoken by our Lord throughout the centuries. I imagine there were many questions that were asked by the angels in heaven that received those words as a response. God, how are you going to deliver the Israelites from the hands of the powerful Egyptians? Watch and youll see. What is your plan to bring about mans salvation? Watch and youll see. Your Son, Jesus, has been born a helpless baby in a poor, powerless family. How can he possibly make a difference in this world? Watch and youll see. And Im sure Jesus must have spoken those words countless times to his apostles. Lord, this man has leprosy. That one is a paralytic. What can possibly be done to help them? Watch and youll see. Jesus, this womans son has already died. Surely there is nothing you can do. Watch and youll see. Jesus, if youre crucified, how can you possibly save the world? Watch and youll see. In fact, I suspect those same words have been spoken to you and to me at difficult times in our lives that we questioned God. God, how can I go on living without someone I love so dearly by my side? Watch and youll see. How can I cope in the midst of all this physical or emotional pain? Watch and youll see. God, this addiction has a hold on me and I dont see any way that Ill ever have the strength to conquer it. Watch and youll see. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth -- praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD. Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust... (Psalm 42:1-3) Watch and youll see! ----------------------------------------------------- The God of Time TGIF Today God Is First by Os Hillman For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter, though a mans misery weighs heavily upon him (Eccl 8:6). How we use our time is a good indicator of the god we choose to serve. There is a god whose name is the urgent that can rule our lives if we are not diligent. The wrong use of time can lead to misery. The right use of time can result in fulfillment. You need to take time to turn to God. Do not pray only when you have set aside time to do. The busier you are, the more you must practice turning to God. If you wait until the time is convenient, there is little doubt that you will end up spending little time with God. Try to come before God both in the morning and the evening. Pray during and between all your other jobs as much as you can. You cannot retire too much from the mindless chatter of the world. Learn to steal this time in little snatches, and you will find these moments the most precious part of your day said Francois de Fenelon, a sixteenth century Christian leader.* The amount of time we spend with anyone or any activity is a good indicator of the value we place on that person or activity. Time equates to money for some. For others it can be a cruel dictator. It is the physical evidence of what is at the center of our lives. People can generally make time for what they choose to do; it is not really the lack of available time, but the will to set a priority for the time they have. Time can be the evidence that convicts our soul that our devotion has waned. What does the evidence of time tell you about yourself? Today, give God the time needed to develop a relationship that is meaningful for both of you. *Francois de Fenelon 100 Days in the Secret Place, Destiny Image Publishers, Shippensburg, PA p. 117 2001 ----------------------------------------------------- Josees and I were at the circus. I had taken my, at the time, three-year-old son to the circus. The ringmaster, Casual Cal was dressed in silver, black and white with a tall ringmasters hat. He led the crowd of mostly kids in one chant after another. Finally, Casual Cal said, On the count of three, everyone yell out what school you go to. One... Two... Three... Josees was silent as the rest of the kids yelled. Josees wont start school until the summer. I yelled out my school. Am I in night classes? No. Am I taking postgraduate courses at a local university? No. Am I taking seminary courses? No. Am I taking a correspondence course? No. I yelled out my school. Perhaps you attend the same school as I do.
