Wholesale #energymarketreport from #bcconsultants today - Power: UK Base Current DA 52.00, December 2013 - 53.85. - Why? o Spot prices for delivery today were up yesterday as wind generation in Germany is expected to be lower. The main risk is that the availability of conventional capacities could be revised down: there were again some nuke return delays announced by the French grid operator RTE yesterday and there almost 4GW of unplanned coal- and lignite-fired capacities in Germany this morning. If this occurs, spot prices could be stronger than expected. o On the far curve, cal 2014 prices were a bit higher yesterday, closing at €38.03/MWh in Germany on the EEX. The upside move occurred when the ECB decided to cut its interest rate, the euro/dollar parity plunged and the costs that European players have to pay for coal rose. o CO2 markets in the meantime were volatile, but in the end rather unchanged. Market players will be focused on the COREPER meeting where greenhouse gas emissions are on the agenda.
