Whose business are you into? Luke 2:49 And He said unto them, - TopicsExpress

Whose business are you into? Luke 2:49 And He said unto them, “How is it that ye sought me? Wist ye not that I must be about my Fathers business?” This is the account of Jesus answering His parents’ inquiry after He was found at the temple speaking with the religious leaders. His parents had realized He was missing as they journeyed back home from their trip to Jerusalem and returned to find Him. Jesus’ response was a gentle rebuke. He was reminding His earthly parents that He had a purpose here on earth and His purpose superseded secular activity. Christ was instructing His biological parents on what to expect from Him and His ministry to come. There was an underlying message here also. During this era in time many first born sons followed in the family business or trade, which Joseph was a carpenter and may have expected Jesus to continue in that industry as His life’s vocation. By stating He was about His “Father’s business”, He was inferring that He was to follow in His Heavenly Father’s path in life: the business of ministering to the human race. This same response and behavior should be our life’s ambition as Christians. We should always be about seeking to do God’s will in our lives. As adopted children into the family of the Creator, we should also seek to put the “Family” business as our primary vocation. Although each of us must participate in secular employment, train in institutes of education, etc., we must make God’s calling for our life our number one priority if we are to consider ourselves a success in life. Are you about your Father’s business or have your own goals side-tracked your purpose?
