Why APC is fighting like wounded lion, by Igbokwe Tuesday, 02 September 2014 By Editor Party went to sleep on Ekiti poll IT is unfortunate that the APC went to sleep while the elections were going on in Ekiti State and we lost out. It took the rocking of our boat in Ekiti to wake us up to realise that we have been robbed. But in the Osun elections, no stone was left unturned. Everybody was mobilised; the young, the youth, the old stood up to defend the integrity of the State of Osun. In Osun, we were able to contain the forces of the security agents and the PDP gladiators like Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Kashamu Buruji, Chris Ubah, Femi Fani-Kayode and others. They tried to use the federal might to grip and choke Osun State with arms and money but the people resisted them. It was a fight to finish and the people of Osun State held their ground. The outcome of Osun governorship has given us the momentum to regain the lost ground. I can assure you that the PDP will never rubbish us again in the region (Southwest). Political equation balanced between APC and PDP We were taught the bitter lesson in Ekiti State. Those people, who have decimated and destroyed Nigeria in the past 15 years, are getting bolder and they will stop at nothing to continue to hold Nigeria hostage. The quest for political power is not a tea party. The PDP has taught us that politics is too important to be left without necessary monitoring. We learnt that political dialogue must be on an equal basis. APC is working for now and we do not want to reveal our strategies. When we get to the bridge, we will cross it in Adamawa State. Political equation in Nigeria is now balanced between the APC and PDP and no one can predict what is going to happen. We now clearly understand their tricks and plans. PDP knows it is in for a big trouble in Nigeria and this is giving them sleepless nights. They are now coming to terms that things may never be the same again in Nigeria. Agbaje’s defection means nothing to APC’s influence in Lagos The outcome of the Ekiti State governorship election emboldened some political featherweights in the Southwest to begin to blow their trumpet. One of them is Jimi Agbaje, who is basking in the euphoria that the PDP has come to capture the Southwest. He suddenly woke up to dust up his pipe dream of ruling Lagos. Now, how does this man want to kick-start his politics of dreaming to rule Lagos in 2015? He claimed that real governance stopped in Lagos State long ago but the question is what does he know about governance? Where has he worked before? Where is his pedigree that will support his dream to rule Lagos? Where is the experience? Where are the antecedents? Apart from running a small Pharmacy shop in Apapa, what else can Agbaje tell Lagosians to convince them he has the potential to drive the huge ship called Lagos? Bola Ahmed Tinubu laid a powerful legacy in Lagos and his successor, Governor Babatunde Fashola, is building on it. Lagos has been secured for business and it is a destination in Africa today. The state has set the template of leadership for Nigeria. Take my words: the forces within the PDP where Agbaje is romancing will suffocate him. And take it or leave it; the PDP has no place in Lagos. Our candidate will defeat whomever PDP presents The moment a governor takes the Oath of Office in Lagos, the leadership of the party begins the search for the next governor. This has been the tradition. APC will field a trusted and tested candidate in Lagos and Agbaje will be no match to him because he has no cognate experience in the art of governance. I do not know why we are trying to make a counterfeit currency to look like the real money. I do not know why you are making the comparison here when you have not known our candidate. Wait until you know our candidate before you predict who is going to win. Our work will speak for us when the time comes. APC has demonstrated in actions and deeds that leadership goes with responsibility and the Lagos I know will never be governed by PDP. How APC candidate will emerge The APC governorship candidate in Lagos will emerge through a free and fair process. There would never be imposition. We have not forgotten that only the best is good enough for Lagos. All eyes are on us and our leaders will never disappoint the wise Lagosians. A solid foundation has been laid for Lagos to join the great destinations in the world and Lagos leaders are aware of it and they will bring this to bear in choosing Fashola’s successor. Huge and monumental projects are still ongoing in Lagos and this would be considered in choosing the man of the moment. Southwest, Lagos and Nigeria will not be disappointed in fishing out the would-be governor. My fears for 2015 elections My fear for 2015 is that President Jonathan’s handlers are getting desperate in their inordinate ambition to return the man to power by all means. Free and fair process makes no meaning to them at this stage. We saw the desperation in Ekiti State. We saw it again displayed in the State of Osun. In 2015, the PDP is expected to get more desperate as events unfold. The Southwest Nigeria is the deciding factor and the APC leaders are aware of this. #GuardianNews
