Why Ben Roethlisberger is going to Canton: The Promise: Inevitable Hall of Famer Jerome The Bus Bettis considered retiring after a playoff run came to an end. Roethlisberger convinced him to stay, promising him that he would get the legendary back to the Super Bowl. He did just that. And in Super Bowl XL, Ben proceeded to record the lowest QB rating of any Super Bowl winner. So, even when he has a shitty day, he can still win the big game. Three years later, he made up for it by winning Super Bowl XLIII with a solid performance. Two rings in a relatively young career is nothing to sneeze at. And even though he didnt win, a third trip doesnt hurt his case at any rate. Twice, Ben has thrown for 500+ yards in a single regulation game, the only QB in league history to do so. The second of these kicked off another record breaking performance, becoming the first and only QB in NFL history to throw twelve - 12 - touchdowns in a two game stretch. Montana, Marino, Starr, Favre, Bradshaw, Unitas, Aikman, anybody with the last name Manning - NONE of these or any other legendary names has ever done those things. Not even pretty boy Brady, Double-Check Rogers, nobody. Hows THAT for a plateau to stand alone on... Ben isnt one to shy away from the hits. While all the other nancy boy QBs are crying about being hit, he stands up in the pocket and stares down his attackers to the last man. Last night, he was sacked on three consecutive plays - and STILL came back to set a record. Were talking about one of the most durable, dependable, calm, cool and collected QBs in league history. And this guy came out of the MAC?!? Thrown into the drivers seat of a legendary franchise going through the end stages of a rebuilding period his rookie year? Two Super Bowl wins and a third appearance within 10 years? Records that nobody else has set before? The Bus, Hines Ward, James Harrison, Troy Polamalu, Heath Miller, and even the young guys like Antonio Brown and Cam Heyward - theyre all either going to the Hall, or likely to have careers that will get them there. And the man who capped each of their careers is going with them. Once again, the Steelers have assembled a legendary cast of characters and made history. It may not be near the count of our legendary dynasty of the 1970s, but holy shit... How does one team pull it off so well, twice? Enjoy the rest of your trip, Ben. And lets get that third ring for ya, shall we? We need some buffer space between us and Dallas & San Fransisco... #HereWeGo #BigBen #Canton #HoF #SteelerNation #Steelers
