Why Christians should not Boycott Noah or dissuade people from seeing it. Okay, Im a Bible teacher and ordained minister. If you didnt know and this offends you, turn the page. Of course you can unfriend me if youd like, but I dont unfriend people for having different viewpoints. Generally Christians see everything in Black and White. And so we would love to label movies like Noah as good or evil. ...................As if God cant use an atheist to speak to a culture. .....................God can speak through the sparrows and lilies. The movie Noah can be seen as a positive, despite the fact that it deviates far from the writings that the producer claims to have read. As a Bible teacher and curious person, I have read all the garbage youll never need to read, because I have to check my facts. Methuselah is named as Noahs grandfather. His fathers name was Enoch. Enoch walked with God according to scripture, like Adam walked with God in the garden of Eden. Enoch spoke directly to God and wrote prophetic Books that are not in the Bible. However, Jude includes an apocalyptic quote from Enoch in his Book. Being a teacher, I wanted to find out if the Book of Enoch was still in existence and why it wasnt a part of the Bible. The Book of Enoch got lost and wasnt found until many hundreds of years after the Cannon of Scripture was established - although Ive heard some churches had added it to their cannon. I wont debate the Inspiration of Enoch. I believe it is not on par with scriptures that are in the Bible. But I do believe that parts of it are inspired, including that part quoted by St Jude. Likewise the Books of Jubilees and Yasher/Yashar/Jasher/Jashar (Its called all of these) include an account of mankind from the time of Adam - forward. And the Book of Yasher is actually quoted in the Old Testament, meaning it has historical value at minimum. These three books, more than any other, contain a complete tale that begins with Adam. And it fills in the blanks. It gives names to Adam and Eves daughters, and Noahs daughter in laws - that did exist pre-flood. Lets just count how long it took to Build the Ark - simple math - How many years did it take to build the Ark? Between 60 and 120 years, depending on whose arguments you believe. Now lets look at the movie. Noahs sons were children at the beginning of the story, and they were still children without wives at the end of the story. You see, I actually think the making of Noah is a good thing, because it will force mankind to ask questions that we must ask. Does God have a line drawn in the sand for mankinds arrogance, rapes, murders, and torture of the earth? Great question. Let everyone see this movie. I dont care. I wont tell Christians not to see it. They will be disappointed. But the movie starts a great conversation if we are willing to look at the bright side. Lets go back to Enoch. Ive read all versions of the Book of Enoch and there are three which deviate slightly, but are much the same. And supposedly Noah adds his own chapter - as he speaks directly in the book, which Ive read. Enoch was Methuselahs teacher, who is portrayed as a mystic in the movie. I have no doubt that Enoch was considered a prophet in his day, and he had a huge following. But it was also in his day (according to his writings) that the events of Genesis 6 transpired. And so, in Enochs lifetime, the angels had already come down and slept with the daughters of men. And Enoch called these specific angels, Watchers, because God had assigned them to watch over the earth. Angels are not the same breed as Humans. We are uniquely different in many ways. Angels can take on the shapes of humans, and even Hebrews said that they can walk amongst us and we wouldnt even recognize them. They are shape-shifters, in a sense. But that is in their nature just as it is in a Chameleons nature to shift colors. They can do what they do. However, humans do not become angels in heaven. We become the Bride of Christ - in the sense that we will be united in spirit with Christ for all Eternity. And we become the Children of God the Father for all Eternity - adopted. Enoch not only prophesied the Flood, but the reason for the Flood. These fallen angels had bastardized Gods creation by introducing a seed that was never meant to be sown. And so a race was born, or perhaps sub-races since all angels are not quite the exact same species (Seraphim, Cherubim ...etc) And these Fallen Angels did not just sire Children according to Enoch, they taught mankind war and sorcery (which is interworking with demons to avoid going through God for a miracle) - a topic for another day. How much impact did this have? Lets look at what Genesis 6 says: When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with[a] humans forever, for they are mortal[b]; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. 5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. Noah and the Flood 9 This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. 11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. 16 Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit[e] high all around. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. 17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.” 22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him. (Genesis 6) God had told Noah what he had told Enoch, that God would use Noah to reboot the Earth after he cleansed it. How wicked did mankind become? Every thought of every person was ONLY EVIL CONTINUALLY. ......That translates into a world filled with Psychopaths and Sociopaths. Every single human. And the movie comes very close to capturing this - which I must say was well done. It depicts a race that is hell-bent on destruction, because that is the heart of a Psychopath. It cares for no one. The Nephilim, and the name itself denotes evil in the original, would have eventually polluted and destroyed mankind. God had enough. And so, according to scripture, and Enoch, and other books, God imprisoned all of those Angels and put them into Chains. And Enoch was shown these imprisoned angels who begged Noah to plead with God to spare them. (Request denied) So, heres another problem with this movie. The producer played around with what was the best sources of information, and turned to crazy myths - and thus we have these Rock Beasts (Watchers) building the ark. And its not that the producers didnt have a huge palate to begin with. Angels mating with humans, and a race of giants - not in the movie. The heroes of old, perhaps where the Hercules, Achilles myths were born, as well as much of Mythology. They could have included the horrific battles. But I will not chide them for not including everything. Rather, my greatest disappointment was that they turned Noah into what God hated, a violent man who would slaughter his own grandchildren. Noah was lost and bewildered, instead of a man who knew God, whose great-grandfather predicted his life. And last, they mis-portray mankind and God. Man is not a baby sitter for animals. .....God made us in his image and likeness. To become His sons and daughters, and the Bride of Christ. God never gave up on that dream, and so he told Noah straight forward that he would make a covenant with him. The one Enoch foretold. Enoch also predicted the Messiah and speaks of his place with God, and his nature - which I feel is very close to the Jewish and Christian portrayals. And Enoch also foretold the Coming of the Messiah, which Christians interpret as the Second Coming of Christ. God put us on this world to be trained to be his family. He gave mankind rule over the earth to teach us to govern and understand what our Father in Heaven does. We are not dispensable, as the movie suggests. Otherwise God could have beamed all the innocent Animals to Heaven and burned the earth to the ground. Star Trek meets Noah. Reverend Nafty Feel free to repost.
