Why Com. Hiralal Yadav is the alternative in Varanasi? Back in 1967 Comrade Satya Narayan Singh was elected member of Parliament from Varanasi which included Chandauli,which is now a separate district.Chandouli, which was a part of Varanasi district till a few years back has a long and courageous history of struggle. In Chakia(Chandauli) landless agricultural labourers and adivasis seized the land of Maharaja of Kashi, the most powerful feudal royal family in the entire area. The land should have been vested by the government much earlier which was not done. Twenty years back, people revolted under the red flag and seized more than 600 bighas of land in Musha Khan, Barat farm and Shadapur. The fight has its history of blood shed too. Poorest of the poor Musharas, Kols and dalits fought squarely every single attack for last two decades to retain their possession. In Shadapur, in 2005, royal family tried to evict them and forcibly ran tractors in the 200 bighas possessed by the peasants. A brave resistance followed,in which Ganga Devi and Triloki laid down their lives. However, the peasants still retain possession. In these places the peasants do farming, though the produces are low. No legal documents of possession have been given to them yet. Varanasi despite being picturised as the strong hold of the saffron,the Communist ideology had its impact on the people ever since independence. Udal of CPI was a nine term MLA from Kolassala(Varanasi),Rustam Satin of CPI a three term MLA from Varanasi South constituency, Comrade Raj Kishore of CPI(M) a two term MLA from Gangapur constituency Varanasi and Comarde Deena Nath Singh Yadav,present state secretary of U.P. Kisan Sabha,CPI(M) won from the same Ganagapur seat in 1991. The party has led several demonstrations and agitation against the arbitary acquiring of agricultural land by the COCA-COLA company.In the name of HI-TECH city A to Z company was trying to seize agricultural land,our party revolted against it and A to Z company was forced to step down.There were vehement protests led CPI(M) against the SEZ in Varanasi.Despite these issues CPI(M) has been continuously taking up the basic issues of the city,there have been several long sustained campaigns by the party on local issues. Varanasi the city is known traditionally for Banarasi Sarees. Weavers(Bunkars) constitute a large population of the city.The weavers belong to minority community and the association of weavers Bunkar Dastakar Morcha is affiliated to the CITU. CITU has a strong presence here along with Kisan Sabha and Agricultural Workers Union. Comarade Dr.Hiralal Yadav is CPI(M)s candidate for LokSabha elections 2014. Dr.Hiralal Yadav is a Ph.d from Banaras Hindu University and has been a SFI leader as well as a DYFI leader.
