Why Do I Eat? 1. I’m hungry. 2. It’s time to. 3. It’s there and looks good. 4. It continues to taste good (though actually had enough). 5. To get it gone. 6. I need the nourishment. 7. To compliment the “Chef”. Each of these are reasons why I have eaten at various times. Now consider the following parallel. Why Do I Study God’s Word? 1. I hunger and thirst for righteousness? 2. It’s time to (scheduled Bible study)? 3. It’s there and looks good? 4. I enjoy it (can’t put it down)? 5. To say, “I’ve done it”? 6. I need the nourishment? 7. To please God (it interests me)? My underlying point in all of this is to be conscious of the reasons for what we do. What is our inward motivation? Is it a motivation which his pleasing to God and stems from a progressive growth in faith and desire to know His Will for our life? The psalms begin with the following perspective: “(1) Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; (2) but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:1-2 ESV) For the sake of a healthy body, we ought to consider what and why we eat. However, even more importantly, we need to consider what relates to our spiritual health. May we make certain our diet is spiritually enriched daily as we watch the “cholesterol” (worldly influence) level and nourish our hearts and minds with the truth of God’s Word. Enriched in this way, our love for the Lord and each other will ever flow pure and free from within us. Have a great day DRAWN TO GOD’S WORD FOR HEALTHY LIVING!
