Why Do We Need To Take Part In Bowfishing Shoots & Events? Ive - TopicsExpress

Why Do We Need To Take Part In Bowfishing Shoots & Events? Ive heard this question many times. The answer is to protect our sport! Bowfishing is continually under attack from the anti groups, Peta, CAG And GASS. (CAG being the Carp Anglers Group and GASS being the Gar Angling Sportsmans Society). While we have a great time in the BAI and it has turned into a great social club, the BAI was originally started to counter the anti movement of these groups. Many of you have seen the online comments made by these groups including the latest FB page Americans Against Bowfishing where CAG officers even suggest they team up with PETA to end bowfishing. But there is also a constant email, letter, phone call, petition campaign by these groups to the DNR to stop our sport, restrict it to invasive species or even put size limits on invasive carp! I have been told this by many DNR people, and while they are firmly pro bowfishing, things change. And we bowfishers have to make sure they dont. How? By growing the sport. Showing people what bowfishing is all about at ranges and shows. Getting kids interested in it at shows or on the water. Supporting tournaments to show our numbers to the outdoor community. This takes some work on all our parts. We need all our members to help us at shows, shoots, ranges and all else we do. We also need to be great representatives of the sport. We need to be courteous to others we meet on the water, keep the night time noise down around homes, and most of all NEVER dump fish! These acts only give anti groups ammo, even though they are done by an extremely small percentage of people who bowfish. So as we get into the show seasons, please do your part to help the sport. Dont wait for the other guy to do it. Dedicate some of your time to grow our sport and protect our sport. Its all fun until someone gets bowfishing banned! So do your part, new bowfisher or old, to keep our great sport healthy!
