Well before filming commenced on the Taxi Driver film, Robert studied for, and eventually qualified for a license to drive taxi cabs. He drove during the various shifts and in-climate weather conditions to perfect how to be the best and most tolerant and real taxi driver when it was projected onto the big screen. Although he did not get the win for the Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar, his being recognized and lauded for his efforts was proof enough that he did his homework.
