Why Hormonal Balance is Important, and Why Overly Big Muscles Dont - TopicsExpress

Why Hormonal Balance is Important, and Why Overly Big Muscles Dont Equal Overly Strong Muscles: Myostatin is a protein secreted by your body as a growth differentiation factor. Its purpose is to suppress muscle growth. Although that function probably bumps up against your weight room goals, lab mice genetically modified to be myostatin deficient showed decreased physical performance despite packing on lots of muscle mass. A study published in the Journal of Physiology might help explain what happened with this tradeoff. Rodents who were not altered put up better treadmill running performance in terms of both speed and distance covered compared to the muscle-bound mice. The reason was a reduced release of calcium in the altered rodents. That condition reduced their ability to generate muscle force. Even though large muscles may look great the reality is over developed muscles with hormone imbalance or lack of proper conditioning will lead to muscles that can not generate proper force proportionate to their size. The classic case of looking like a War Machine and Performing Like a Delicate Flower in the Wind.
