Why I think NBCs Dracula is probably staked. Im not posting this to gloat. Many of you know I was not satisfied with this incarnation of Dracula but there are a few reasons this show might be canceled that have nothing to do with my opinion of the series. 1. The actor who played Van Helsing is now a villain in Avengers 2 and according to Blastr he just signed a multi-movie deal. That makes him pretty busy. 2. NBCs parent company is Universal studios. This October Universal Studios is launching what it hopes will be the first of a new line of Dracula movies. The film is Dracula Untold (previously titled Dracula Year Zero). If they renew the NBC series there is the danger of market over-satuation with two distinctly different versions of the same character produced by the same company. Execs dont like the potential for possible confusion and will want to promote the film as much as possible without people mistaking it as part of the universe of the TV series. I have seen the script for Dracula Year Zero and it is a very different continuity. 3. I have seen this before. Back in 2007 NBC / Universal (the parent company of The Scifi Channel (now Syfy) deliberately delayed in announcing if The Dresden Files (based on the Jim Butcher book series) would be renewed or not. There was a passionate and vocal fan base so they scrambled for an excuse not to renew. They waited several months until the lead actor had been tied to a new role before announcing that the show would not be renewed after just one season. My guess is this is what they are doing now. And Thomas getting the job with Marvel might be the excuse they want so they can dispel blame. I could be wrong but the signs are all there.
