Why I’m Supporting Buhari – Bamidele A member of the House of Representatives and Labour Party chieftain, Hon Opeyemi Bamidele, has said that his decision to support the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari is to enable him to be part of the change the party is about to effect in the country. He explained that his resolve to support the APC is not about him but about Ekiti and Nigeria in general. Bamidele who spoke to reporters yesterday in Ado-Ekiti on the rumour that he had already returned to APC, said the matter would be discussed after the February elections. The federal lawmaker dumped the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria for Labour Party in September 2013 following the disagreement between him and former Governor Kayode Fayemi over who gets the party’s governorship ticket for the June 21, 2014 poll. The Labour Party chieftain said he led his teeming supporters to support Buhari’s candidature for the February 14 presidential poll during his electioneering campaign in Ado Ekiti on Saturday because of his belief in his capacity to deliver, if elected president of the country. He said as a progressive, the task of joining other like-minded Nigerians to rid the country of corruption, insecurity and unemployment is his priority for now. He urged Nigerians to use the present opportunity offered by Buhari’s candidature to disentangle themselves from the clutches of socio-economic crises bedevilling them. He said, “Buhari remains the best option for our country at this present time and that is why we are deploying the Ekiti Bibire Coalition political platform for him”. Explaining why he won’t be returning to APC for now, Bamidele said the LP, where he presently belongs is fielding candidates for State and National Assembly elections and he would have to support them to emerge victorious in their constituencies and senatorial districts. “Buhari had been Military Governor, Minister and Head of State. He has both civilian and military backgrounds that can help this nation at this critical period . “We cannot continue to fold our arms and allow a group under the guise of insurgency continues to decimate our people, even when we have a government at the centre. “Aside this, aligning with APC is like rejoining my political family. We share the same ideology which is deeply founded on progressivism. I am ready to support any cause that would bring Nigeria out of the wood regardless of wherever I may be in terms of political association”, he said. He disclosed that every other modality on his return to APC would be discussed after the general elections .
