Why Not Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe? (Series1) ‘’Enfranchised by the law of the land’’ • Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe is a bonafide indigene of Delta state. He is a true son of the soil of Ogbobagbene in Burutu Local Government Area. This guarantees him the sacred constitutional right to vote and be voted for within the geographical jurisdiction of Delta state. ‘’The doctrine of party is supreme’’ • The policy of building a synergy between the state government and the party structures from the wards to the state level is paramount in the agenda of Orubebe. It is an object of Orubebe to create a platform where party executives at the various levels will enjoy unfettered access to the policies and privileges of the government. This idea traces its roots to the era he was chairman of Burutu local government area. He held it a compulsory duty to host ‘end of month’ meetings with the party (NRC) leadership (executives) in the local government to plan on how best to address both developmental challenges and the needs of the party from the various wards. In other words, the party was actively involved in the decision making process of the local government. It worked as a potent administrative strategy and therefore shall form part of the policies of Elder Godsday Orubebe to forge a balance in the system. ‘’A man of the people’’ It shows from his humble beginning as councillor that, Orubebe is an offshoot of grassroots politics. In appreciation of this fact, he has always been in constant touch with the people of his community by organising and participating in monthly programmes. Even as a Minister of the federal Republic of Nigeria, he never ceased to attend major events in his locality and beyond. Some of his friends back in the days he was councillor are now active members of his campaign organization. This unique attribute will play out its best in favour of communities which are currently not accorded place in the scheme of things. ‘’When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice ... 29:2’’ Besides being a God fearing Christian, Orubebe is a philanthropist of some sorts. His unique monthly church programme carries an empowerment aspect which he uses to address the needs of widows, the physically challenged and the aged. This has impacted tremendously on the lives of the people. And the programme holds up an evidence of his love for the people. He will take conscious steps to revitalise similar programmes in the state or institute such programmes to deal with these category of people across the state. ‘’You are what you know’’ CNN Quite interesting, Orubebe has moved his career as a politician in pace with an avid interest in education. As with most modern leaders of great repute, Orubebe studied for: Primary School Leaving Certificate Secondary School Certificate A’ levels Bachelor of Science Degree(Bsc) in =Political Science Master of Science Degree in(Msc) in = International Relations Doctor of Science Degree in(PhD) in = Political Science (in-view) This education shows itself in both his advanced approach to issues and his predeliction for excellence. Delta state deserves nothing less. ‘’Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets,...’’ Habakkuk 2:2 • Orubebe runs with a clear vision for a better Delta state. The model which contains the bit by bit details of the policies, programmes, and projects designed to deliver effective remediation in the areas of infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, tourism, energy and environment, housing and urban development, youth and sports, justice and security, among others shall be unveiled shortly for public consumption. A strong economic plan is on the way. A plan he brought together a team of some of the best brains of Delta state to develop is available and shall be distributed in no distant time. At the nucleus of his agenda shall sit the following: Infrastructural transformation Human capital development Job creation Provision of basic social amenities Rejuvenation of viable but currently decrepit institutions “Shelter for the people” Orubebe, as a governor, will make Deltans to enjoy an array of housing projects for all strata of persons across the state. This idea began its history from the period he was chairman of Burutu local government area. He is the first chairman, the only at that time, in the entire country to introduce and execute a ‘’Low Cost Housing Project’’. This shall be re-introduced in the state as one of the first in the line of projects. “Affection for Sports” He showed himself a true lover of sports when, as chairman, he built a mini stadium where the people of Burutu local government regularly visited to satisfy their interests in sporting activities. The plan to reinvigorate the ministry of Sports to better engage the youths for productive careers in sports is sacrosanct in the agenda of Orubebe. ‘’... In matters of principle, stand like a rock’’. Thomas Jefferson The force of strength that sustains and propels Orubebe’s destiny in all affairs is rested on a three- legged stool of principles: Absolute trust in and total reliance on God. Diligence in the pursuit of any set goal. Consistent focus on his vision ‘’I am not an accidental politician.’’ Orubebe Orubebe is a born politician who blazes through the rungs of his career to the zenith with an admirable finesse. His experience both as an astute politician and a conscientious administrator is versed in the responsibilities he has executed in different capacities. It is on good record that he managed the following offices with exemplary competence: • A councillor = A Local Government Legislator/ Supervisory Councillor of Education • Chairman =Burutu Local Government Area • 2nd Member = State Primary Education Board (SPEB) • Chairman = All Peoples Party (APP) Delta state • Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to the governor of Delta state (James Ibori) on = Regional Matters • Federal Minister = Special Duties, National Planning and Niger Delta Ministry In another volume, a list of policies, programmes and projects accomplished under each of the offices will be supplied to help the public have a better understanding of the man and his vision.
