Why Open Mic? Why debate and potentially divide the body? There are those Christians who would say cant we all just get along? I mean, the unsaved world is watching us bicker and argue over our faith and it doesnt look winsome. Beloved, to this I would understand your internal cringe, and I also know that not everyone is interested in understanding the more theological side of Christianity, the deeper truths. Many want to stay on a milk-fed diet believing that if they name Jesus as the God of all gods, its all settled and further gospel clarification is not needed. Mistake. Wouldnt you know that Satan isnt so easy to pick off. Hes not content with the obvious. This is why he presents to the watching world other versions of Jesus...ones who are distorted and unbiblical at best. .These other views of Jesus oppose the written word of God, the very nature of God and the true character of Christ. There can only be on truth. Maybe if truth wasnt of such dire importance we could just brush it under the carpet; but as it were, we have a very real enemy of our faith and since Satan cant directly hurt Christ with an attack, he does the next most effective thing. .He hurts those who are in Christ by distortion of the very thing Christ elevated above His own name, the Word of God! The only thing more dangerous than Christians not passionately discussing doctrinal differences for truth, clarity and ultimate edification is for them to do nothing at all leaving us with little more than a pie in the sky build a god workshop. This is the imaginary place where feelings replace facts, camaraderie comes before spiritual sensibility, and the need to look like we have it all together as a Church takes preeminence over actually being of the same mind before Gods written word. Open Mic questions ruffle the feathers of some. And truth be told, ignorance is bliss. But what happens when we really start fleshing out the questions that need not be filed away into the faith without reason files? What happens when somebody approaches you and tells you that their Jesus requires all to speak in tongues as a direct evidence of salvation. .or that you may in fact be able to lose your salvation if you dont deny your flesh enough. .or that the doctrine of the rapture has less scriptural support than the views of preterism? What happens when somebody tells you that they believe in Jesus being the only way to heaven..They just reject the Trinity? Or when somebody says baptism is a requirement for salvation? Should we leave the assertions unanswered for reasons of- either we dont know the truth because of a lack of ambition to study Gods word... or even because we dont want to risk breaking harmony. What kind of way to pursue truth is that... especially truth of the most significant kind. On a smaller scale, could you imagine of courts of law took that approach with criminals? . .Lets save face and not break argue if it means exposing lies. .never that! Paul knew the importance of rightly dividing truth, and he managed his followers the way anybody who loved them truly would have... He spoke truth in love. Debating doesnt have to be nasty. .it can be a discovery into truth we have yet to consider. I Corinthians 1:10 NKJV Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. Which begs the question, without discussing things of scriptural importance, how can we ever get to the place of being of one mind and judgment? Communication is essential in marriage because marriage matters. I believe our marriage to Christ and His undying word matters more. To answer the question, the purpose is not to divide the body.. It is to divide the lies from the truth. If your doctrine is not your personal identity, you will have no problem kicking false interpretations of Scripture to the curb.
