Why Rescue From Puppy Mills There are an estimated 4,000 puppy - TopicsExpress

Why Rescue From Puppy Mills There are an estimated 4,000 puppy mills in the United States producing over a half a million puppies a year. This is a huge contributor to our national epidemic of pet overpopulation and our appalling pet euthanasia rates. Ohio ranks sixth among the top 10 states of licensed commercial breeders. Puppies born in puppy mills are the product of systematic over-breeding and inbreeding that can result in a lifetime of health conditions such hip dysplasia and patellar luxation. These puppies are prematurely separated from their mothers when they are a very fragile 5-6 weeks old. Some die in the process of going off to auction. Those that make it to commercial pet stores might be considered the fortunate ones. Their brothers or sisters who were born with a minor health problem such as an umbilical hernia, who contract pneumonia, or who are just a little funny looking for their breed are rejected by the stores and usually killed by the breeder.
