Why Runners Should Include Weight Training! Prevent Injury: Strength training will help build muscle and bone strength helping to prevent future injuries. It will also help to stimulate your central nervous system and lead to motor neuron patterns. Many individuals have a non-dominant side which is often weaker. This can lead to imbalances in stride and movement when running. Including both unilateral (single) and bilateral (both) leg exercises can help to avoid imbalances and prevent injury. Movements such as lunges and step-ups are excellent lower body exercises that will help equalize strength and power between the legs and are excellent for runners.
