Why Uhuru & Ruto Would Die For Kenya The Start of the ICC - TopicsExpress

Why Uhuru & Ruto Would Die For Kenya The Start of the ICC proceedings against the Deputy President and Radio Presenter Joshua Sang presents a new reality for Kenya, more so the figure of a Deputy President standing trial at an international court to answer to serious charges such as murder and forceful displacement of masses, of course among others. Also the now vivid reality that The President of The Independent Republic, elected by a massive margin will soon stand trial at the same court. However, there exists a reality that Kenyans cannot escape from, that they elected political leaders who love and respect the history, the structures of their sovereign country and the position that Kenya holds on the International platform. It would be an easy move for President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta and his Deputy to refuse to cooperate with the ICC, if anything, their current hold to power would allow them to do that, a resounding public opinion denouncing the current trials at The Hague based court would essentially stamp such a move. In disregard of this option, the country’s top leadership has committed to the process, one they see as a way to vindicate themselves and heal a nearly blemished image of the country abroad. The top leadership of this country have shown a continued commitment to the founding pillars of our nation, putting country before themselves. The President and his Deputy have placed national concerns before their own, in attending the Hague based trial, they are not only helping clear their names, they are proving to the world that the long standing description of Africa as the home of dictators and leaders who feel nothing for their people, are detached from the pillars of true humanity is erroneous. The reality that Kenyans can tell from the trials is that some witnesses and essentially the entire charges were driven with the ill motive of making Kenya an example among nations and not the pursuit of true Justice. The handling of investigations, witnesses and even the basis of confirmation of charges was erroneous. In spite of this reality, the leaders are braving their critiques and facing the ICC head-on. There is an old tale told. Once upon a time, a sheep set out to find her Lamb that had been taken by a pack of wolves. The wolves lived in a dark scary forest in the Far East far from where the sheep lived. The Journey took days and luckily the Sheep caught up with the wolves that were then discussing how they would feed on the lamb, she hid in a bush and could see them from a distance, it is said that she organized with the other small animals in the forest to make thuds like that of a marching army that saw the wolves run off leaving the lamb behind. This analogy is a crude way of telling the cases facing the President and his Deputy. We are sending them to a faraway land, to a court whose independence is in doubt and seems to have a cast eye set on Africa. Our leaders have placed the reputation of our country first, they are willing to face a process whose motive and decisions are suspect so that our country is not alienated from the global community. In respect to the President & his Deputy, the ICC should acknowledge that the two represent millions of Kenyans. Seeing our leaders have cooperated with the Hague based court, it is expected that the court should as well show respect to our country and our systems as a country. Having said that, I submit to you the reader, that it is the duty of the Independent systems of this country to avoid a situation where 1. The Deputy President continues to appear in person at The Hague based court 2. The President appears in Person at The Hague based Court. Today’s technology allows our leaders to attend the trials via video-link and whatever outcome that the Court pronounces to the defendants, then they will respect the court’s decision. Hence, the humiliating show of our leaders not getting International Presidential Privileges in the Netherlands is one thing we should not accept as a country, the two, President Uhuru and his Deputy Ruto are a fabric of the Kenyan people and thus represents each and every one of us. The fact that we all want justice for all those affected by the events in 2007/08 must not distract us from the very vivid reality that it is embarrassing to have our systems ridiculed by other nations and institutions without our borders. Separation of Person and duty is impossible when the item of discussion involves the elected Presidency of our country.
