Why We Have Civil War Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “If (a community’s) rulers do not rule according to Allah’s Book, they will be afflicted by civil war. Allah forbid that (this) should happen to you.” [Ibn Majah, Al-Bazzar, Al-Bayhaqi] The commands in Allah’s Book contain within them the means to avoid a lot of pitfalls. If a community abandons Allah’s Book then they will necessarily fall into disagreement over the set of rules to govern themselves and others by, as one person’s whims are as good as another’s. Thus those who abandon Allah’s guidance are afflicted with civil war. Should they turn to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) for help even then, will they be saved from a more severe punishment.
