Why? Why do we do it? I have had the question asked more times than I can recount. Why? Well, I dont do the people thing that well. I dont have children I dote on and adore. We have cats, and currently... A house full of broken cats. Even if their lives are short, even if it is an inconvenience, and mostly... even if it breaks our hearts. We do this because these little guys need someone to witness their existence. Someone who will spend just the few minutes to play that makes their day. Someone who will hold them when they dont feel good. Someone who will mourn their loss. Thats what we do; and its also what you do when you tune in, cheer them on, and recognize their lives. It IS important. I think that in the grand scheme of things, there truly is a yin and a yang... You can tune in at any moment and see all the bad stuff in the world, and it is what it is. You can also sit quietly and patiently and hear the other side. You can hear Sophia LOrange chatter in her lovely lilting voice to her babies... You can witness Isle of Purrs care for the special RWs and cry with her when they pass... You can watch us, Kitten kaos ,as we fight to help our little guys have a good bit of quality life. Even if only a bit. This is why. They had a life. And we witnessed it, and hopefully in some way we made it good... Even if only for a bit. We hold them. We love them. I no longer get upset about the whys... Why this person didnt spay, why that one let the cat out, why there are awful people doing terrible things. I take my energy and put it into balancing the equation, saving the un-savable, loving the unloveable. And each time it breaks our hearts. But it is fixed with scar tissue, which is tougher... And it gives us strength to carry on. Why indeed.
