Why a families comm, a childrens comm, CYFS - and now the proposed childrens Ministry? What is it with this obsession with children as endangered fragile artefacts? The stats are known, over 250,000 kids are impoverished - and its not just financial - this can be addressed directly. Politicians & parties can address the problems - without wasting public money on increasing layers of bureaucracy and increasing social control and surveillance (disguised as care) over families and children - with decisions being made by distant officials and unaccountable, overpaid friends of politicians (on boards). A significant number of parents need more money, better quality of work and life, affordable health and more time to spend with children, more children need access to the same, they deserve respect and friendship, good quality food, recreation and living - and time to rest, to get to know other children and their own parents and families. No need to create a whole bunch of new agencies. Just make basic needs easily accessible, with wages up, rest and relaxation available and affordable - make corporations and govt. depts. easily accountable to the public. Otherwise no need for the State to interfere as much as it does - too much of that (even with good intent) goes on in NZ. Demonstrates a serious lack of maturity and progress.
